Colossians 1:11 “being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have full endurance and patience with joy 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son”.
As we understand our spiritual adoption (Romans 8:15), we must know there is an inheritance that comes with our spiritual adoption. We know that inheritance comes at the death of someone. By the death of Jesus Christ, we come into our inheritance. Often times we think of inheritance, we envision family heirlooms, money, houses and many other material things. Spiritual inheritance has nothing to do with stuff. Verse 13 of Colossians chapter 1 gives us a good indication of how spiritual adoption works. He rescued us from darkness and brought us into his kingdom, that we may share in the inheritance of the Saints in the Spirit of light. That reminds me of a time I was in a bad place in life and didn’t know I needed a savior, but God knew just what I needed. I am so grateful and when he does the same thing in your life, I know you are as well. God doesn’t want us to get so caught up on early stuff, but he wants us to keep the kingdom of God and what he has for us at the forefront of our mind and spirit. Listen to the wisdom of Matthew 6:19, it tells us “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. I know you’ve heard the term only what you do for Christ will last, that is a true saying. It will produce blessings upon blessings and create an inheritance that will carry on into future generations. In the natural you leave an inheritance for your loved ones. What God gives us is more than an inheritance, it’s a legacy. The world cannot provide such richness. What God gives us will carry on in our future generations. Hebrews 6:14 says, "I will surely bless you and multiply your descendants." This is a promise only God can make, and surely bring to pass. After we are long gone, God will take care of our children and our children’s children. I liked the way Craig D. Lounsbrough describe the two “An inheritance is what you leave with people. A legacy is what you leave in them”.
Isn’t it so true the most important things God gives us, He places them within us.
Listen how Ezekiel describes what God places, on the inside of us. Ezekiel 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes and to carefully observe My ordinances”.
This change just doesn’t happen to us. It also happens to our children and our children’s children as a legacy from the Lord.
When God gave us a new heart and placed his spirit within us, he gave us everything we needed to become the sons of God. Let us receive God’s everlasting life. Let us receive his strength from the power of God to live an obedient life, and to observe all that is written in his word and the Bible says we shall receive a crown. This is how the apostle Paul describes it. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved Him."
Prayerfully this has helped you know that serving the Lord has benefits that the world cannot give you. 2 Corinthians 9:8 "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
And we are forever grateful. Leave me your thoughts, your comments, and your questions. I look forward to staying connected to you!
